Although cut from the theatrical run, Captain America can be seen in the alternate beginning on the DVD and Blu-Ray. When the last piece of ice breaks up toward the screen, hit the pause button. There, frozen in the ice, lays Cap with his shield. </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In a deleted scene Blonsky describes the Hulk to General Greller: "8 foot, 1500 pounds easy... and green. Or gray, sir. Greenish gray.. It was very dark, I couldn't tell." This is a reference to the Hulk being gray in his first comic appearance. Problems with the gray coloring in the first issue led to his skin color being changed to green. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Betty Ross buys Bruce some purple pants. In the comics, the Hulk is almost always seen wearing purple pants. </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The VFXperts based the Hulk and Abomination's movements on linebackers. </div>

</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
There are references in the film to Marvel Comics' next film, Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). Firstly, there is a portrait of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, seen in the General Ross's office. Next, a label can be seen on the storage tank reading: "Dr. Reinstein." Reinstein was the doctor who developed the Super-Soldier serum that transmogrifies Rogers into the Captain. Louis Leterrier mentions he shot a scene where Banner encounters Captain in the Arctic, but it was cut out of the final cut of the film. It is on the special features options of some DVD editions, however. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The live news footage from the Culver University incident can be in the SHIELD office in Iron Man 2 (2010), placing the events in the second half of this film after the events in Iron Man 2 in the timeline. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Edward Norton, who had previously rewritten films he starred in, wrote a draft of the script which Louis Leterrier and Marvel Studios found satisfactory in establishing the film as a reboot of Hulk (2003). As Norton explained, "I don't think that in great literature/films explaining the story's roots means it comes in the beginning. Audiences know the story, so we're dealing with it artfully." Norton's rewrite added the character of Doc Samson and mentioned references to other Marvel Comics characters. He also wanted to put in "revelations about what set the whole thing in motion" that would be explained in future installments. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Hulk's look was based on comic book artist Dale Keown's drawings, where "the Hulk, being beyond perfect, has zero grams of fat, is all chiselled, and is defined by his muscle and strength so he's like a tank." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Edward Norton was cast as Bruce Banner on the recommendation of Lou Ferrigno, who had starred in The Incredible Hulk (1978) as the Hulk. Ferrigno stated that Edward Norton reminded him of the late Bill Bixby, who acted beside him as David Banner (same character, different name). Norton, who a big fan of the series, had also portrayed a similar character in Fight Club (1999) </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Tim Roth, Edward Norton rewrote scenes every day; Norton and Liv Tyler also spent hours discussing their characters' lives (especially before the Hulk appeared). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
A scene where a futile Bruce Banner arrives at the Arctic to commit suicide was featured in the trailer, but was deemed too sensitive for young viewers and was removed from the film. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the scene where Bruce Banner emails Mr. Blue with his data while Betty purchases the used truck, the email is tracked through the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D) database. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Although director Louis Leterrier liked Hulk (2003), he concurred with Marvel Studios that to continue the franchise it would be better to deviate from Ang Lee's cerebral style from the first film and focus on a more action-filled tone. He also believed that in keeping with Hulk (2003)'s poetic feel, the VFX were mostly "a fluorescent-green guy who was simply flying around; he had no weight and was too smooth-looking," so he wished to make the film's VFX grittier and darker "and perhaps even a little scarier!" </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
William Hurt based his performance as General Ross to Captain Ahab, the obsessive captain who endlessly chased Moby Dick. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Stylistically, the filmmakers chose a darker shade of green from Hulk (2003), and decided to not make him as large. His size does not increase as he becomes further enraged, staying at a consistent height. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Paul Soles who portrays "Stanley", the owner of the pizza shop, provided the voice for Dr. Bruce Banner in the 1960s Hulk (1966) animated series. The character's name may also be another tribute to Hulk co-creator Stan Lee. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the comics, the Abomination possesses pointed ears. Louis Leterrier wanted this characteristic to appear in the film, but reasoned that the Hulk would bite them off (a la Mike Tyson on Evander Holyfield), which was considered too intense for a PG-13 film. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
It took the VFX artists over a year to construct a shot where Dr. Banner's gamma-irradiated blood falls through three factory stories into a bottle. </div>

In Germany the film was cut for a more commercial "Not under 12" rating. However, these cuts were done so clumsily that not only movie buffs but also average movie goers noticed them which resulted in lots of complaints to theater owners. To apologize for this some cinemas gave away free movie tickets to the complaining customers. Additionally many cinemas, including some of Germany's largest cinema chains, included warning messages on their websites to raise awareness of the issue. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Sam Elliott wanted to reprise his role as General Ross from Hulk (2003), but it was taken by William Hurt. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Is the only one of the four films released in the summer of 2008, based on a comic book, that wasn't nominated for any Academy Awards. (The others being The Dark Knight (2008), Iron Man (2008) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008).) </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
After the Hulk appears at Culver University, two students are interviewed in the news, named Jack McGee and Jim Wilson. Jack McGee was a tabloid reporter who attempted to track down the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk (1978), and in the comics Jim Wilson was a young orphan who befriended the Hulk. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Norton wrote a part specifically for Michael K. Williams because he is a big fan of Williams' work on The Wire (2002). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Composer Craig Armstrong collaborated with Louis Leterrier to create the film's score. Marvel Studios were so pleased with the score they decided to release it as a two-disc soundtrack. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Edward Norton rewrote the script substantially and in certain posters, he was credited under the pseudonym of 'Edward Harrison'. Norton's writing credit was later denied by the WGA, and Zak Penn is the only writer credited. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The film is tinted greenish as a tribute to the Hulk (who has green skin). </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Ray Stevenson was considered for the role of Emil Blonsky. He would later play Volstagg in the Thor films. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Hulk, as portrayed in this film, was created through a blend of motion capture and key frame animation (by Rhythm & Hues). Hulk (2003)'s VFX were carried out by Industrial Light & Magic, with its director Ang Lee providing motion-capture. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Visual effects supervisor Kurt Williams created special computer programs that controlled the inflation of muscles and saturation of skin color for the transformations (since Williams reasoned that skin color was influenced by emotions, like blushing for instance). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
William Hurt and his son are big fans of the Hulk. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Liv Tyler takes over the role of Betty Ross from Jennifer Connelly. Tyler and Connelly appeared together as sisters in Inventing the Abbotts (1997). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Louis Leterrier had been interested in directing Iron Man (2008), but when Jon Favreau took that project Avi Arad offered him a sequel to Hulk (2003). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to screenwriter Zak Penn, this film was more similar to comic book writer Bruce Jones's Hulk concepts and The Incredible Hulk (1978). </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Military Base mentioned in the film "Fort Johnson" is named after Kenneth Johnson; the writer, director, and producer of the original The Incredible Hulk (1978) television series. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Louis Leterrier directed four units with a broken foot. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The film joined Toronto's Green-Screen initiative, to help cut carbon emissions and waste created during filming. Hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles were used, with low-sulphur diesel as their energy source. For constructing the sets, the production department used a sustainably-harvested locally-sourced yellow pine, instead of the commonly-used lauan, and afterwards the wood was either recycled or given to environmental organizations. Paints with no/low volatile organic compounds were used, and paint cans were handed to waste management. A contractor was on set to remove bins. Environmentally-friendly items used on the set included cloth bags, biodegradable food containers, china and silverware food utensils, recycled paper, biodegradable soap and cleaners, rechargeable batteries and stainless steel mugs (one for each production member). Producer Gale Anne Hurd hopes the film will be a symbol of the drive to encourage less pollution from film productions. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tim Roth signed on the film because he was a fan of The Incredible Hulk (1978), as well as to please his comic-book-fan sons. On set, he constantly asked whether this would "be a cool shot" for his kids to see him in. He thoroughly enjoyed playing Blonsky, but found it difficult since to portray Blonsky's over-the-hill state he could not work out; but he hired a personal trainer to assist him in motion-capturing the Abomination's movements. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The only film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe not to be distributed by Paramount, as Universal has had the rights to "The Incredible Hulk" since the TV series, The Incredible Hulk (1978). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Louis Leterrier insisted Tim Roth, of whom he is a big fan, be cast as the film's main antagonist, even though Marvel Studios and Edward Norton were initially unsure of Roth as a supervillain. Leterrier later said "it's great watching a normal Cockney boy become a superhero!" </div>
<div class="did-you-know-actions" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Edward Norton and Tim Roth filmed their Hulk-Abomination fracases on a stage, using motion capture and 37 digital cameras. Roth enjoyed using the motion capture technique because it reminded him of fringe theatre. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In 2003, James Schamus had written a treatment for a direct sequel to Hulk (2003) featuring the Grey Hulk with The Leader and The Abomination under consideration as the lead villain. However, Universal at that time owns the rights to making the film and by the time the rights expired at the end of 2005, Marvel's own studio bought back the rights of making the movie with Universal only distributing it. </div>
<div class="did-you-know-actions" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Bruce Banner's sidekick Rick Jones was present in early drafts, but ended up being removed once Edward Norton rewrote the script. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
An earlier draft made The Abomination a composite character with Glenn Talbot, a different character from the comics. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Hercules aircraft (337) at the beginning of the movie is stationed at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario Canada. It is a Canadian Air Force plane flown by Canadian Military pilots. It was painted to resemble the USAF planes. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Two years prior to taking the role of Dr. Bruce Banner, Edward Norton had the lead role in The Illusionist (2006). Three years before Bill Bixby gave his performance of Banner in The Incredible Hulk: The Incredible Hulk (1977), he had the lead in television series The Magician: Pilot (1973). </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
William Hurt was under consideration for the role of Gen. Robert E. Lee in Gettysburg (1993). Another role, that of Gen. John Buford, ended up being played by Sam Elliot, who played Gen. Ross in Hulk (2003). </div>

Spoilers </h4>
<div class="list" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="alert" style="text-align: center;">
The trivia items below may give away important plot points.</div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Louis Leterrier, the final scene (Banner grins as his eyes turn green) was a deliberately ambiguous shot: it was meant to show that Bruce finally learns to control the Hulk (for a Hulk sequel) or will become a menace (as the villain for the film The Avengers (2012)). Ultimately, the Hulk becomes a team player in "The Avengers" and Banner even reveals his secret of staying calm - he's always angry. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tim Blake Nelson's character, Samuel Sterns, gets The Hulk's blood in a wound in his head. His head starts to mutate and then he smiles. This is a foreshadowing of his role in the sequel as the main villain, The Leader. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to General Ross, the serum project that mutated Bruce Banner into the Hulk was developed during World War II. This is a reference to Marvel Comics' next film, Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), who was created with the use of a special serum. Additionally, the person who takes the serum must be treated with a unique form of radiation - any accidents or deviations from the procedure can cause horrific side effects to occur... as befalls Banner and Blonsky. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Hulk has a total of six words: "Leave Me Alone", "Hulk Smash", and "Betty". </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the post-credits scene, General Ross is drinking an "Incredible Hulk" cocktail at the bar. It is made using equal parts of Hennessy cognac and Hpnotiq liqueur. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Zak Penn felt that the name "Abomination" sounded too silly, so Emil Blonsky is only referred to by his proper name. However, the word is used once when Samuel Sterns warns Blonsky that the mix of Banner's mutated DNA with Blonsky's injection "could be...an abomination." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the comics, Emil Blonsky takes on a scaly reptilian appearance, becoming the Abomination. Louis Leterrier felt that while that was cool, it made no sense considering there was no reptile mix in his origin. So in this film Blonsky's appearance is redefined substantially to have his skin/muscles/bones exaggerated and sticking out all over his body. Leterrier describes Blonsky as "an uber-human, just like the Hulk, but a human who was injected with something in the wrong places and these places are growing differently." The VFX artists think of Blonsky as "a guy who transforms but is not used to having these new properties; for instance, he's much heavier, so when he walks down the sidewalk, he's tripping because his weight is destroying the sidewalk." </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Hulk's origin in this film is a combination of the Marvel Ultimates comics (experimenting on Captain America's super-soldier serum) and The Incredible Hulk (1978) (over-exposure to gamma radiation in an experiment). Even the equipment seen is a close match to that used in the TV series, right down to the light sliding over Banner's face. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Although the final scenes are set in Manhattan (Harlem to be exact), they were shot in Toronto, with the initial showdown between the Hulk and the Abomination being filmed on Yonge Street. Several Toronto icons are visible, most notably the "spinning disc" sign for Sam the Record Man, and the marquee of the Zanzibar Tavern. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the Bruce Jones Hulk comics, Betty Ross aided Bruce Banner as a shadowy contact under the alias "Mr. Blue." Mr. Blue appears in the film, but is revealed to be Samuel Sterns. The title Mr. Blue is also a possible reference to Tim Roth's crime film Reservoir Dogs (1992), which featured Roth as Mr. Orange, and a Mr. Blue portrayed by Edward Bunker. </div>

That said, we have come across a letter which Hiddleston wrote to Avengers director Joss Whedon and you have to read this, it's awesome and mindblowing! Here's the email as well as Joss Whedon's response:<br />

The Hulk was a solid part of The Avengers storyline in the original movie and by all accounts, his role in the sequel won't be much different as the monster redeems himself and Banner through his heroic actions. There can be no doubt that Hulk will always be a force of brute strength and sheer power no matter what the circumstances are or the odds against him.<br />

Tony Stark is indeed bankrolling The Avengers this time out. With the
dissolution of S.H.I.E.L.D. in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and it's
subsequent "handover" to Phil Coulson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony Stark
takes on the role of global security by housing The Avengers in the former Stark
Tower, now <strong>Avengers Tower</strong> (featuring the "A" on the building,
as teased in both Cap 2 and the end of THE AVENGERS), where he funds new tech,
new costumes, and even a new Quinjet.</div>

Tony Stark/Iron Man has created an army of Iron Man "drones" (much like he
utilized at the end of
IRON MAN 3) and uses them to "keep the peace." (Could that be who Quicksilver is
pummeling through in the concept art above?) The Avengers are not in hiding or
attempting to keep a low profile. They are very public and "out" about their
intention of keeping the world safe, especially with the absence of
S.H.I.E.L.D.</div>

Stark wears the Mark 43, a suit with less gold on it than IRON MAN 3, but

and will be his other suit in the film.</div>

In 2008 we saw the beginnings of something awesome with the post credits of The Incredible Hulk (2008). General Ross sitting at a bar drinking and a then unknown man starts speaking to him. It is then revealed that it is Tony Stark ( Robert Downey Jr.).</div>
<div align="center">

<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Marvel then did something unexpected and decided that through their newly founded Marvel Studios, they would now be completely responsible for making their own movies, probably in a move to control the rights of their characters. Many sceptics said that after X-Men, Spider-Man and other characters had already been sold to other studios that Marvel perhaps were shooting for the stars with their belief that they could make credible movies with the what was left of their heroes.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkiGcRjnjqT3iP-M4iaiE220WTNRSH7RQlei-bCz9JQtiT0Wnfbyrm55R49NA6fZnKU3ebOX6HuJC_KHFqgwr0F-n0MKf3CKeerIQ2RRFUXF1YDR_195jyctGX9vsixscHi1k5Ttup-AtI/s1600/ironmanconcept1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkiGcRjnjqT3iP-M4iaiE220WTNRSH7RQlei-bCz9JQtiT0Wnfbyrm55R49NA6fZnKU3ebOX6HuJC_KHFqgwr0F-n0MKf3CKeerIQ2RRFUXF1YDR_195jyctGX9vsixscHi1k5Ttup-AtI/s1600/ironmanconcept1.jpg" height="160" width="320" /></a>Marvel once again silenced Hollywood as Iron Man was extremely well received globally with an overall gross of $585,174,222 and then continued their spree with another Iron Man movie as well as Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and Thor (2011). With Marvel being bought by Disney, we finally got our big Avengers movie and the world stood in awe of it as a superhero movie of this magnitude and quality was never seen before, drawing from the fanbases of it's previous hero movies and culminating in a heart-pumping action adventure that packed theatres.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
It's now a few years since then and already other studios are now scrambling in the shadow of post-Avengers cinema. Everyone wants to now fill their movies with heroes and hope for the glory of Disney's effort. What am I talking about? Well 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the X-Men and no one can dispute the work that Bryan Singer & Brett Ratner put into the original 3 movies. In fact the success of these movies as well as Blade (1998) led to the building of the Marvel cinematic universe and provided a financial backbone to follow up with further endeavours.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHD7Vi2H5-naQAk6wXpOjiItUcfZBfTEijVbELo24UDQow8v_gvapT_fXy289bEnD0NuYFbzld-Urms0JEsJ1nqs2BWWFtiF9szbAzC64UTYH7nFyK3be01yByPm147d1FKkJCNeXpTfo2/s1600/untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHD7Vi2H5-naQAk6wXpOjiItUcfZBfTEijVbELo24UDQow8v_gvapT_fXy289bEnD0NuYFbzld-Urms0JEsJ1nqs2BWWFtiF9szbAzC64UTYH7nFyK3be01yByPm147d1FKkJCNeXpTfo2/s1600/untitled.png" height="400" width="640" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
In 2011 while Marvel killed the competition in theatres, Matthew Vaughn then released an X-Men movie of note in the form of X-Men: First Class (2011). This movie redefined the X-Men world and even to the greatest extent overshadowed the franchise which Singer had previously built. Vaughn had successfully rebooted and breathed new life into the X-Men. The movie was made off a budget of $160 million and fell short domestically in the U.S. but worldwide made a total of $353 million thus doubling it's takings in terms of production.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
In the American Summer of 2012, Marvel's The Avengers (2012) was released and all other studios stood up and took note. Marvel and Disney had now done something different, they not only linked all their heroes but created a box office giant! Then in 2013 Man of Steel (2013) was released and finally through the hands of Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan we received an interesting Superman reboot. The movies production was $225 million and netted a global total of $668 million making it a force to be reckoned with.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Now in 2014, 20th Century Fox released X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) which saw Singer's X-Men franchise join up with Matthew Vaughn's new one. Clearly by throwing all kinds of mutants and doubling up of it's characters, Fox was hoping to duplicate the wonder created by Avengers not 2 years earlier. The movie was financed with around $200 million and currently is globally sitting on $661 million. While this is a worthy effort thus far, it still stands behind Marvel's The Avengers and has in no way even dented or come close to the same glory. However, having made $661 million and with a sequel already in progress, these has bourn the financial fruits which Fox had hoped for.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOglwLfm8Y1ikocSVAlnEUNcspDwUDINvkU1oRhTsJa8WHnKJb854R_imBpW4i4SxoMUw7mqMC3kY3uw4RZlbFr5pdY_9dGxr_wMXRlgYwFZWInja30tAzPwtVgxTZTe_IdO9BdHtK8jy5/s1600/man-of-steel-poster-henry-cavill.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOglwLfm8Y1ikocSVAlnEUNcspDwUDINvkU1oRhTsJa8WHnKJb854R_imBpW4i4SxoMUw7mqMC3kY3uw4RZlbFr5pdY_9dGxr_wMXRlgYwFZWInja30tAzPwtVgxTZTe_IdO9BdHtK8jy5/s1600/man-of-steel-poster-henry-cavill.jpg" height="400" width="272" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
In the background the DC universe is now expanding and like Fox, are seeking once again to replicate Angers-like success. The production of the Man of Steel sequel or Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and what looks like the makings of a Justice League movie with Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Batman and rumoured annoncements of DC movies to come, including solo hero movies and an official Man of Steel solo sequel it certainly looks like we're going to be drowned in heroes per movie.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Just as a thought, has Marvel's The Avengers (2012) woken the box office giant that is James Cameron also? Cameron ruled the box office with his megahit Titanic and then followed it up with 3D sensation known as Avatar. What influence did Avengers have on Cameron with his announcement of 2 or more sequels to Avatar in a post-Avengers cinematic world? That question can only be answered by Cameron himself and I'm doubtful that any recognition will be given to Marvel or Disney for that.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
So there you have it, my original question was HOW HAS MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS CHANGED CINEMA? We can now see that hero movies or at least through the views of other studios, need to have more heroes than any of us can count. A giant leap in the genre was made in 2012 and whilst we all get to see the consequences of this and fans are more than happy to go watch their heroes on screen, how long until we start tiring of this and it all gets way too much? Some might argue that perhaps we're already there and have reached the hilt and heights of where these movies will go and perhaps we will now see a downward spiral as everything in cinema is exaggerated and over compensated thanks in due to the record breaking Marvel's The Avengers...</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Only time will tell.</div>

The final choice for the role of Thor came down to brothers Chris Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth. Chris found it funny: "We both came all the way over here from Australia and ended up battling against each other." He however bore no ill-will towards Liam, claiming he was rooting for him to get the role. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tom Hiddleston prepared for the role by going on a strict diet before and throughout filming, so that Loki would have a lean but hungry visage. </div>
<div class="did-you-know-actions" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Kenneth Branagh asked Anthony Hopkins to improvise his reaction to Thor's yelling at him in the banishment scene. Hopkins agreed, and when the scene was filmed many of the cast/crew present were sobbing. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston later said they had to struggle to keep their composure during filming that scene. Hiddleston later complimented Hopkins, to which he said, "Ken's fantastic, isn't he?". </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Stan Lee claims he'd always wanted to play Odin, but was happy with Anthony Hopkins's casting and performance in the role. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
When Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins saw each other in full armors for the first time, Hopkins said "God, there's no acting required here, is there?" </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Dr Selvig mentions a comrade who got mixed up with SHIELD, whom he described as "a pioneer in gamma radiation"; this alludes to Bruce Banner, whose experiments in gamma radiation mutated him into the Incredible Hulk. A deleted scene also has him mention Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
It's mentioned in passing that Thor's hammer was forged inside "a dying star". This actually makes a modicum of scientific sense. When a very large star dies in a supernova, sometimes its remains collapsed to form a "neutron star". These objects cram the mass of the sun into the size of a city, forming a new kind of matter nicknamed neutronium. A single teaspoon of this material would weigh billions of tonnes. If Mjölnir was made of this material, it would certainly explain its incredible weight. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
When Tom Hiddleston learned he was going to be in the film, he was in "a grizzly pub" in North London, and caused an uproar there by screaming out loud. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tom Hiddleston initially auditioned for the role of Thor, but Kenneth Branagh felt he would make a better antagonist and cast him as Loki. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Norwegian village seen in the flashback is the same one the Red Skull invades to steal the Tesseract in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Kenneth Branagh, the closing credits sequence was based on images from the Hubble Space Telescope and took 18 months to create. </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
When the Destroyer appears on Earth, the SHIELD agents speculate that it could belong to Tony Stark (Iron Man). In the storyline 'Fear Itself', Tony Stark acquired Destroyer armour from Asgard. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Brad Pitt was rumored for the role of Thor; Channing Tatum and WWE wrestler Paul Levesque (aka Triple H) was considered for the part; Daniel Craig was the first choice; and Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Hemsworth and Joel Kinnaman tested for the role, but finally Liam's brother Chris Hemsworth got the part. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Kenneth Branagh conceptualized this film as a Norse/comic-book twist on William Shakespeare's Henry V (1989), which was about a young king who underwent trials and tribulations: fighting a war, courting a girl from another land, trying to live up to the example set by his father (a beloved king), and basic character development. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The film makes extensive use of actual Norse mythology (which the "Thor" comic was based on): </div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
<ul>
<li>the war between the Asgardians and the Jotunns was based on the Aesir-Vanir war (the Jotunns were in fact a non-hostile/antagonistic race)<br />
</li>
<li>Odin's ravens Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory), who gather information in Midgard and relay it to Odin, are sitting on his throne during Thor's coronation ceremony<br />
</li>
<li>the Bifrost, originally thought of as the rainbow by the Norse, is seen as a beam of rainbow light.<br />
</li>
<li>when Odin appears in Jotunheim, he is riding his eight-legged horse Sleipnir<br />
</li>
<li>a Jotun calls Thor a "little princess" - once Thor's hammer was stolen and he dressed up as a Princess to go back and retrieve it<br />
</li>
<li>and Thor shows Jane a drawing of a crossroads with nine orbs in it - his perception and representation of Yggdrasil, a great tree around which the nine worlds are tethered, making up the universe.</li>
<li></li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Kenneth Branagh has been a fan of "Thor" since childhood. When Marvel Studios selected Branagh as the director, they sent him the complete collection of the Marvel Thor comics series as reference material for the character. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tom Hiddleston researched Marvel Comics' Loki and found him to be a multi-dimensional character, so based his performance as Loki on three different actors: Peter O'Toole (enigmatic reckless persona), Jack Nicholson (edgy and near-insane persona), and Clint Eastwood (persona with simmering anger). </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
To prepare for the role of Thor, Chris Hemsworth put on a massive amount of build and weight, through a six-month regimen of trips to the gym and indulging in a massive diet of eggs, chicken, sandwiches, vegetables, brown rice, steak and protein drinks. </div>
<div class="did-you-know-actions" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The agent that grabs a bow and arrow when Thor is attempting to recover Mjölnir is referred to as Agent Barton. Clint Barton is the real name of Hawkeye, the archer hero in the Avengers comics who later appeared in The Avengers (2012).<br />

<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Mjölnir is ancient Norse for "crusher." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
To prepare for his role as Loki, Tom Hiddleston trained in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Anthony Hopkins claims he relates to his role of Odin: "I'm a little like Odin myself. He's a stern man. He's a man with purpose. I play the god who banishes his son from Asgard because he screwed up. He's a hot-headed, temperamental young man, probably a chip off of the old block... but I decide he's not really ready to rule the future kingdom, so I banish him. I'm harsh and my wife complains and I say 'That is why I'm king.' He's ruthless, take-it-or-leave-it." </div>

According to Kenneth Branagh, the film's biggest challenge was connecting the worlds of Asgard and 21st century Earth: "It's about finding the framing style, the color palette, finding the texture and the amount of camera movement that helps celebrate and express the differences and distinctions in those worlds. If it succeeds, it will mark this film as different... The combination of the primitive and the sophisticated, the ancient and the modern, I think that potentially is the exciting fusion, the exciting tension in the film." </div>

Both Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hiddleston were performing in a West End stage production of 'Ivanov' when it was announced that Branagh would direct this movie. At the 2010 Empire Movie Con, Hiddleston recalled one night when, as a joke, he burst into Branagh's dressing room wielding an empty plastic container from a water cooler like Mjölnir, shouting "Come on, Ken, what do you think!?". Brannagh's response was reportedly a very jokey "You never know, darling, stranger things have happened". Two months later, Hiddleston was auditioning for Thor, before landing the role as Loki. </div>

According to producer Kevin Feige, the Bifrost bridge is the films's most interesting set: "In the comics, it's literally a rainbow that extends out from Asgard and pops down on Earth. We're not necessarily doing that; we're not having the big hard solid lines of colors. We're saying it's some sort of energy, almost a solid quartz bridge that as the light catches it and flows through it, you get some of that rainbow-esque quality to it." </div>

Scarlet Johansson stars as the vivacious Black Widow in the Marvel universe. We first got to see the character appear in Iron Man 2 and then in Marvel's The Avengers in 2012. Hopefully Marvel will fill our apettites by giving us a solo Black Widow movie but until then we can enjoy her talents in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron but until then here she is in her various incarnations.</div>

Long before we had CGI technology and perhaps in bluescreen, back in 1977 Bill Bixby starred as David Bruce Banner and his alter-ego The Incredible hulk was Lou Ferrigno.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Lou Ferrigno had to endure having his entire body colour made to green in order to portray his character.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
The show started in 1977 and concluded 5 years later in 1982 having completing a total of 82 episodes.</div>

<div align="center">
The Incredible hulk TV show also led to some memorable TV movies such as The Incredible Hulk Returns, The Trial of The Incredible Hulk (1989) in which he met Daredevil / Matt Murdoch. and The Death Of The Incredible Hulk (1990).</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
In fact it was this Hulk that met Thor long before we even imagined an almighty Avengers movie like the one we witnessed in 2012. The Bixby / Ferrigno Hulk had already expanded the Marvel universe from comic book fans to TV fans and had set all the groundwork and foundation for future actors playing Hulk. </div>

In 2003, conditions were favourable for Marvel as their cinematic universe started growing. Thus far, they had success with movies like Blade, X-Men and Spider-Man and were looking to bring more major characters to the big screen.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Straight after his brilliant success with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, director Ang Lee was brought in for the movie.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Actors which joined him for this goliath movie were Eric Bana as The Hulk, Jennifer Connelly as Betty Ross, Sam as Genreal Ross and Nick Nolte as David Banner.</div>

<div align="center">
There was even a nod to the original The Incredible Hulk TV show with a brief cameo made by Lou Ferrigno and Stan Lee.</div>

As per Ang Lee's signature, the movie came across as too dramatic and comic book fans and audiences spurned it though there were some powerful scenes shared by Nolte and Bana.</div>

The movie however did not hasten a sequel. The movie was made with a production budget of $137 million and took a decent worldwide total of approxiamately $245,360,480.</div>

<div align="center">
By 2008, we got a second Hulk movie in the form of the Louie Letterier, The Incredible Hulk. The movie starred Edward Norton as Bruce Banner / Hulk, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and William Hurt as General Ross.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Whatever fans felt lacked with the 2003 Hulk, this movie more than made up for it. Instead of showing us an origin movie, this went straight into action, with Hulk already burdening the tiny Bruce Banner. Though the movie was not a sequel to the 2003 movie it did however seem to subtly continue from it as well as the 1977 TV show as Hulk is in South America and hiding from his pursuers.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
The Incredible Hulk however also did not impress cinema goers as well as anticipated and with a production budget of $150 million, the movie only made a worldwide gross of around $263 million. Only increasing it's taking by just $18 million from it's 2003 counterpart. It would then be another 4 years till we see Hulk in a cinematic release again.</div>

<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Though not a Hulk movie, the success of the Avengers was almost totally due to the Hulk in the movie. Hulk's strength is shown as extremely powerful and we get to see only the tip of his gamma-radiated awe.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
The Hulk is seen 74 minutes into the movie as Mark Ruffalo tackles the tricky role of Bruce Banner / Hulk due to negotiations failing in Marvel's attempt to bring Edward Norton back as our ill-fated hero.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Ruffalo brought a new finesse to the Marvel character and this definitely helped to the overall excellent portrayal and story of the Avengers.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
Marvel says that currently they don't have any plans for a solo Hulk movie as yet and if that is the case then we will all have to look forward to his new adventures in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron</div>

Robert Downey Jr. kept food hidden all over the lab set and apparently nobody could find where it was, so they just let him continue doing it. In the movie, that's his actual food he's offering and when he was eating, it wasn't scripted. He was just hungry. </div>

Reputedly a scene was filmed where during the final battle Captain America saves an old man trying to protect his grandchildren. He tells him to 'Get them to cover' but as he walks away the old man asks him "Cap, is that really you?'. He turns and, noting the man's World War II veteran lapel pin, trades salutes with him. As Captain America sprints away the children ask their grandfather 'Do you know him?' and he replies 'We ALL know him'. </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to director Joss Whedon, the original cut of the movie was over 3 hours long. About 30 minutes of the excised footage are included on the Blu-ray, most of which revolves around Steve Rogers (Captain America) struggling to adjust to the modern world. Chris Evans has since announced that these deleted scenes will be used for Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). </div>

Samuel L. Jackson's role as Nick Fury in this film makes him the second actor (after Hugh Jackman, who has appeared in all the X-men movies) to play the same comic book superhero in five different movies. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tom Hiddleston spoke of his role as Loki in an interview by saying, "I can tell you that it's all of them against me. I am the super villain. So it's Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury forming a team because I've got so bad ass." </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Chris Evans was unsure about his character's line, "I understood that reference!" because he was worried that it would make audiences think that his character was unintelligent. However he was quickly comforted after he watched the movie with an audience and he saw that they found the line humorous as opposed to stupid. </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
There were very few times that everyone was in town at once, but on one night when they were, Chris Evans sent them all a text message simply saying "Assemble" (the tagline to the movie), prompting a night out on the town. After Loki is brought on board the Helicarrier, Tony Stark can be seen wearing a Black Sabbath T-shirt. Black Sabbath is better known for their song "Iron Man." Although the song was not originally associated with the Marvel Comics character, it has since been referenced in the comics and the end of Iron Man (2008) when Tony quotes the lyric, "I am Iron Man." </div>

The laboratory scene where Bruce Banner explains how he once attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself in the mouth is a direct reference to a deleted scene from The Incredible Hulk (2008) where Edward Norton's Bruce Banner tried to commit suicide in this manner out in the middle of Alaska's wilderness only to be stopped by his transformation into the Hulk. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The final end credit scene was added after Robert Downey Jr.. encouraged a scene rewrite: after Tony Stark falls back to Earth, he originally awakens and asks, "What's next?". Robert Downey Jr. thought the line could be more interesting, and the idea of going to a local shawarma restaurant was born. The scene was added one day after the global premiere. Since then, shawarma sales in Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Boston have reportedly skyrocketed. </div>

Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is from the Ultimate Marvel Universe created in 2000 to re-imagine and update the Marvel heroes for the 21st century. Fury's likeness was actually based on Jackson, who gave Marvel permission to do so. Subsequently, based on that likeness and his star power, Jackson was cast as Fury for all Marvel superhero films owned by Marvel/Disney starting with Iron Man (2008). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Joss Whedon's commentary, Bruce Banner's saying of Loki, "You can smell crazy on him", was a setup for when the Hulk faces off against Loki in Stark Tower. Originally, Loki was going to make multiple versions of himself and the only way the Hulk was going to discern where Loki was to smell them. Only the real Loki would have a scent. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Lou Ferrigno contributed to the voice of the Hulk in this film. He has played the Hulk in almost every live-action version since 1978: he played the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk (1978) and its subsequent three TV specials, and he voiced the Hulk in the big-screen The Incredible Hulk (2008) (he was seen in Hulk (2003) but it was a cameo role as a security guard, which he repeated in The Incredible Hulk (2008) ). He also has voiced the Hulk in various animated productions. </div>

Tony Stark tells Bruce Banner that he admires his work on anti-electron collisions. When electrons and anti-electrons (also known as positrons) collide, they annihilate each other and high-energy photons or gamma rays (the fictional means by which Bruce Banner became The Hulk) are produced in their place. </div>

Alyson Hannigan from Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) (and wife of Alexis Denisof, who plays The Other in the film), recommended her How I Met Your Mother (2005) co-star Cobie Smulders for the part of Maria Hill. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Originally Joss Whedon had not intended the film to include supporting characters from the heroes' individual films, reasoning "You need to separate the characters from their support systems in order to create the isolation you need for a team." However, he eventually decided to cast Stellan Skarsgård, Paul Bettany and Gwyneth Paltrow (Paltrow was cast at Robert Downey Jr.'s insistence). </div>

<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Joss Whedon, the film is strongly influenced by the early 1960s Avengers comics, which he was a fan of while growing up: "In those comics these people shouldn't be in the same room let alone on the same team - and that is the definition of family." </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Director Joss Whedon had earlier been considered to direct X-Men (2000) in the 1990s. A big fan of the X-Men, he even wrote a script, from which only two lines made it into the film. He wrote the story 'Gifted' for "Astonishing X-Men", which became the basis for X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). </div>

<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Robert Downey Jr. initially pushed Joss Whedon to make Tony Stark the lead: "I said, I need to be in the opening sequence, Tony needs to drive this thing. He was like, okay, let's try that. We tried it... and it didn't work, because this is a different sort of thing, everybody is just an arm of the octopus." </div>

Robert Downey Jr. thought the scene when Iron Man regains consciousness could use a little snappier dialogue, so he requested that Joss Whedon add some. One of the ones that made the cut (the Shawarma reference) is influenced by Nicholas Brendon's (Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)) interview. Nicholas mentions, 'Would anyone like to go get some Shawarma?'. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">

Tony Stark's Acura roadster is neither the 2012 NSX Concept show car nor an actual prototype of the 2015 next-generation hybrid Acura NSX. It was custom designed specifically for the movie by Honda North America chief designer Dave Marek. The "donor car" was a 1991 NSX from Arizona with 252,000 miles on its odometer. The interior of the movie car is almost totally stock, and still has the original cassette tape player in the console. </div>

The name "chitauri" originates from Zulu mythology and is used to describe a "serpent race from the sky". Mark Millar, the creator of "The Ultimates", took the name from the writings of David Icke, who argues that these "chitauri" are in fact aliens bent on dominating humanity. </div>

Since this film and Iron Man 3 (2013) were originally part of a six-picture deal with Marvel and Paramount before the distribution rights were transferred to Walt Disney Pictures, it's the Paramount logo that appears in advertising and marketing as well as the beginning of this film. Although Paramount had no part in the production of "The Avengers", they still received a share of the box office grosses based on their original deal with Marvel. No reference to Disney is made until the very end of the closing credits, where it says "The Avengers" is "Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures." The same is to be expected for "Iron Man 3". </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In order to create a total extraterrestrial look for the Chitauri, they have four thumbs, two on each hand. This can be seen when Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is talking with The Other (Alexis Denisof). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey described the film's look as visceral and naturalistic: "We wanted this to feel immersive and did not want a comic-book look that might distance an audience. We moved the camera a lot on Steadicam, cranes and on dollies to create kinetic images; and we chose angles that were dramatic, like low angles, for heroic imagery." </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Thor spends most of this movie in his Asgardian armor but with bare arms, a nod to his early appearances in the comics. During his time on the Helicarrier, he is also seen without his cape, an allusion to his Ultimate Comics appearance. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
This is only the second time that Bruce Banner/Hulk and Thor have appeared together in a movie. They previously appeared together in The Incredible Hulk Returns (1988). </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Loki's feet never touch the ground from the time of the three-way fight between Captain America, Ironman, and Thor to his final scene. He is either on the helicarrier, in Stark Tower or flying around New York on one of the alien craft. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Mark Ruffalo describes Bruce Banner as "a guy struggling with two sides of himself, the dark and the light; everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control." He furthermore describes Banner's alter ego the Hulk as "a loose cannon - he's the teammate none of them are sure they want, it's like throwing a grenade into the middle of the group and hoping it turns out well!" </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tony Stark describes his group as "Earth's mightiest heroes, that kind of thing." This refers to the bold label that has appeared on "The Avengers" comic books since its 1963 publication. The phrase has also been used as the subtitle for The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2010), the most recent animated series before the live-action Avengers film. </div>

The Chitauri appear in the first story arc of "The Ultimates," an alternate universe retelling of the origins of the Marvel superheroes. In the comics, their leader claims that they go by many names, including Skrulls. It was originally assumed that the reason for using The Chitauri instead of the Skrulls was that because Fox owns the rights to the Fantastic Four and their supporting characters however Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige stated in an interview that the film rights to the Skrulls are not owned by either Marvel Studios or Fox. The reason for them not being used was that Joss Whedon did not want go the route of using shape-shifters in the first film. </div>

This film holds an unusually high number of Academy Award nominees in the cast/crew for a comic book movie, or most movies for that matter: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, director Joss Whedon, and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, possibly many others. This tops Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2 (2010) which each had four acting nominees a piece. Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey shot the film in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio to cope with the varying heights: "We needed the height in the screen to be able to frame in all the characters like Hulk, Captain America and Black Widow, who is much smaller. We had to give them all precedence and width within the frame. Also, the final battle sequence was going to be this extravaganza in Manhattan, so the height and vertical scale of the buildings was going to be really important." </div>

This is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to debut the revised SHIELD logo. As compared to the more stylized eagle design on the logo (as seen in the opening scene at the dark energy research facility), the updated logo features a simplified eagle design (as seen on the flight deck and on the bridge of the helicarrier). This design will become the default SHIELD logo, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. </div>

Altough SHIELD possesses future technology such as the Helecarrier or the futuristic shuttles, some outdated aircraft can still be seen on the carrier. And we see some AV-8B Harrier II+, the night attack variant of the Sea Harrier, that is recognizable by its stretched nose and is still in service with the US Marine Corps. <div class="alert" style="text-align: center;">
The trivia items below may give away important plot points.<br />
</div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the final end credit scene, Captain America is the only one not eating. That is because Chris Evans got a buzz cut and grew out his beard after The Avengers was done filming. He was called in later to do this extra scene and refused to shave off his beard due to having been filming Snowpiercer (2013) at the time, so they gave him the prosthetic jaw. He holds his hand over his face because the prosthetic made him look like he'd been attacked by a hive of angry bees. He also is unable to eat or talk with the prosthetic on. The wig he wears as Captain America is also quite clearly visible in certain shots of this scene. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Joss Whedon: [Killing off a popular character] Agent Phil Coulson, a character who earned considerable popularity with fans through his appearance in almost all of the previous Marvel Studios films, is killed off in the middle of the film, giving the Avengers someone to avenge. On the commentary, Whedon says that it was not his decision to kill off Coulson in the film and that Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige made the call. Whedon would later bring Coulson back in the TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
It took Marvel three tries with the MPAA to grant the film a 'PG-13' instead of an 'R' rating because of Agent Coulson's death scene. Originally, Loki's staff was seen bursting through his chest; instead, a gruesome sound effect was added after Loki appears behind him, and then a quick-cut to Thor's reaction. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
According to Joss Whedon, it was his decision to include Thanos in a post-credits scene: "He for me is THE most powerful and fascinating Marvel villain. He's the great-granddaddy of the badasses and he's in love with Death and I just think that's so cute. Somebody had to be in control and had to be behind Loki's work and I was like it's got to be Thanos." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Seconds before Hawkeye's attack on S.H.I.E.L.D's Helicarrier, Bruce Banner finds the Tesseract's location on the computer. This explains why later he arrives in New York during the invasion of the Chitauri after the Hulk (Banner transformed) fell to the ground from the helicarrier during Hawkeye's attack. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Tom Hiddleston describes Loki in this film as having evolved since Thor (2011): "How pleasant an experience is it to disappear into a wormhole that was created by some super-nuclear explosion of his own making? I think by the time Loki shows up he's seen a few things and has bigger things in mind than just his brother and Asgard...." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Besides the indication that "The Other" is talking to Thanos in the mid-credits scene (Thanos apparently being his master), there is another subtle nod to Thanos in Agent Coulson's remark to Loki that he lacks conviction and has an innate desire to lose - this, a subconscious desire to fail, is said (in the comics) to be Thanos' only weakness. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The character the minion is talking to in the credits is Thanos the Mad Titan, a major supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is a cosmic mass murderer who is literally in love with the personification of Death, which is why he is smiling at the phrase, "To court death." </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
When Pepper and Tony are in their apartment going over digital plans to rebuild Stark tower, the quinjet isn't the only visible clue to an Avenger's headquarters. The logo of each Avenger in the film can be seen on the digital canvas and Captain America's shield is selected to reveal his quarters in the blueprint. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Loki's staff which has a glowing blue gem in the spear head that allows him to control the minds of others. This is a possible reference to the Mind Gem, one of the six Infinity Gems used by Thanos the Mad Titan, shown in the post-credits scene. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Loki brings the Chitauri alien race to Earth to help him invade it. The Avengers are formed to prevent this from occurring. This is in keeping with the very first issue of their self-titled comic book series, in which Loki is responsible for manipulating a chain of disasters that bring the Avengers together in the first place. </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
Body Count: 151 (including the Chitauri). </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
In the closing montage of the film, Pepper Potts shows Tony Stark a hologram of plans to rebuild the top of Stark Tower. In the hologram a Quinjet is clearly visible in the middle of the structure, one among several hints in the film to the possible use of Stark Tower as future Headquarters of the Avengers (as occurred in the comic series). </div>
<div class="soda even" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The decimation of Stark Tower during the final battle destroys the company logo, leaving only the illuminated "A" at the end of the film. This is a subtle nod (and potential sequel set-up) to the comics where the Avengers operate out of a giant building alternatively depicted as an "A" shaped building, or as a skyscraper with a giant "A" crowning the top. </div>
<div class="soda odd" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
A S.H.I.E.L.D. employee is briefly seen playing Galaga (1981), which foreshadows the Avengers' battle with the Chitauri. </div>

Dr. Banner doesn't turn into the Hulk till 74 minutes into the film </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
At the end of the film, when the news clip of the waitress appears on Nick Fury's computer screen it is listed as SHIELD File A113. "A113 is the room number of the animation classroom at CalArts. The A113 reference is a running gag in films made by Pixar Studios, starting with Toy Story (1995), a film partially written by Joss Whedon who wrote and directed The Avengers (2012). </div>

<div class="sodatext" style="text-align: center;">
The Chitauri, the villainous alien race of this film, were the primary villains of the first volume of "The Ultimates", a comic book re-imagining of The Avengers. Subsequently Loki was one of the primary villains of the second volume of The Ultimates, though his appearance had nothing to do with the Chitauri. </div>

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">PLOT</span></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Asgardian Loki encounters the Other, the leader of an extraterrestrial race known as the Chitauri. In exchange for retrieving the Tesseract,2 a powerful energy source of unknown potential, the Other promises Loki an army with which he can subjugate Earth. Nick Fury, director of the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and his lieutenant Agent Maria Hill arrive at a remote research facility during an evacuation, where physicist Dr. Erik Selvig is leading a research team experimenting on the Tesseract. Agent Phil Coulson explains that the object has begun radiating an unusual form of energy. The Tesseract suddenly activates and opens a wormhole, allowing Loki to reach Earth. Loki takes the Tesseract and uses his scepter to enslave Selvig and several agents, including Clint Barton, to aid him in his getaway.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In response to the attack, Fury reactivates the "Avengers Initiative". Agent Natasha Romanoff is sent to Calcutta to recruit Dr. Bruce Banner to trace the Tesseract through its gamma radiation emissions. Coulson visits Tony Stark to have him review Selvig's research, and Fury approaches Steve Rogers with an assignment to retrieve the Tesseract. In Stuttgart, Barton steals iridium needed to stabilize the Tesseract's power while Loki causes a distraction, leading to a confrontation with Rogers, Stark, and Romanoff that ends with Loki's surrender. While Loki is being escorted to S.H.I.E.L.D., Thor, his adoptive brother, arrives and frees him, hoping to convince him to abandon his plan and return to Asgard. After a confrontation with Stark and Rogers, Thor agrees to take Loki to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s flying aircraft carrier, the Helicarrier. There Loki is imprisoned while scientists Banner and Stark attempt to locate the Tesseract.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Avengers become divided, both over how to approach Loki and the revelation that S.H.I.E.L.D. plans to harness the Tesseract to develop weapons as a deterrent against hostile extraterrestrials. As the group argues, Barton and Loki's other possessed agents attack the Helicarrier, disabling its engines in flight and causing Banner to transform into the Hulk. Stark and Rogers try to restart the damaged engine, and Thor attempts to stop the Hulk's rampage. Romanoff fights Barton, and knocks him unconscious, breaking Loki's mind control. Loki escapes after killing Coulson and ejecting Thor from the airship, while the Hulk falls to the ground after attacking a S.H.I.E.L.D. fighter jet. Fury uses Coulson's death to motivate the Avengers into working as a team. Stark and Rogers realize that for Loki, simply defeating them will not be enough; he needs to overpower them publicly to validate himself as ruler of Earth. Loki uses the Tesseract, in conjunction with a device Selvig built, to open a wormhole above Stark Tower to the Chitauri fleet in space, launching his invasion.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Avengers rally in defense of New York City, the wormhole's location, but quickly realize they will be overwhelmed as wave after wave of Chitauri descend upon Earth. Banner arrives and transforms into the Hulk, and together he, Rogers, Stark, Thor, Barton and Romanoff battle the Chitauri while evacuating civilians. The Hulk finds Loki and beats him into submission. Romanoff makes her way to the wormhole generator, where Selvig, freed of Loki's control, reveals that Loki's scepter can be used to shut down the generator. Meanwhile, Fury's superiors attempt to end the invasion by launching a nuclear missile at Manhattan. Stark intercepts the missile and takes it through the wormhole toward the Chitauri fleet. The missile detonates, destroying the Chitauri mothership and disabling their forces on Earth. Stark's suit runs out of power, and he falls back through the wormhole just as Romanoff closes it. Stark goes into freefall, but the Hulk saves him from crashing to the ground. In the aftermath, Thor returns Loki and the Tesseract to Asgard. Fury expresses confidence that the Avengers will return if and when they are needed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In a mid-credits scene, the Other confers with his master about the failed attack on Earth and humanity's strength; in a post-credits scene, the Avengers eat in silence at a shawarma restaurant.</div>

After the Battle of New York, the world has changed. It now knows not only about the Avengers, but also the powerful menaces that require those superheroes and more to face them. In response, Phil Coulson of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division assembles an elite covert team to find and deal with these threats wherever they are found. With a world rapidly becoming more bizarre and dangerous than ever before as the supervillains arise, these agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are to take them on.<br />

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">CAST</span></strong></center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
<li>Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson: The character headlines the series. Coulson is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who oversees many of the division's field operations. Though he appeared to have died at the hands of Loki in <i>The Avengers</i>, he is revealed in the series pilot to have been revived by medical technicians after having been clinically dead for eight seconds. Speaking of his character's return from the dead, Gregg said, "When Joss described to me the mystery and the complexity and the unanswered questions about Phil Coulson standing there trying to deal with this, I found it so fascinating and so true to the world of the comics and mythology in general as I understand them that I was immediately in." The changes that Coulson has undergone since his survival from a near death experience will be explored during the first season. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell explains, "There is a lot that's strange and different about Coulson since his return to duty, and even he's noticing it. It sets him on a quest. "What happened to me? Why am I feeling this way? Who am I?" Executive producer Jeph Loeb adds that Coulson may regret uncovering his answers saying "When you start to pull on a thread, you run the risk of unraveling the whole sweater". Coulson is revealed to have been revived days after he died, and not mere minutes, in the episode "The Magical Place". In episode "T.A.H.I.T.I.", it is revealed that the serum used to revive Coulson is of alien origin.</li>
</center>
<ul>
<li>Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May: A S.H.I.E.L.D. ace pilot and weapons expert, whose nickname is "the Cavalry", although she dislikes the name, as the events that led to its coining during her time as a field agent haunt her, having left her "very quiet and a little damaged". The experience was so horrific that she took an obscure desk job before Coulson recruits her in the series pilot. According to Wen, May "needed to be saved. She returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. out of loyalty to Coulson, but there's a part of her that remains reluctant. She still gets her pissed-off face. If it weren't for his intervention, she'd still be down in that dark, dingy room stapling things." The character was originally listed with the name Agent Althea Rice on casting sheets. In the episode "Yes Men," she is revealed to be aware of how Coulson was resurrected, and to be spying on Coulson on behalf of Nick Fury, as revealed in "Turn, Turn, Turn".</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Brett Dalton as Grant Ward: A S.H.I.E.L.D. black ops specialist. He is a gruff, unsociable "manly man" in his early 30's who is great at his job, but not so great at getting along with his coworkers. Ward has a strong moral foundation and is not without his charm. After a traumatic encounter in the episode "The Well," he begins a sexual affair with Agent May. The affair ends in the episode "Yes Men". Ward exhibits allegiance to HYDRA in "Turn, Turn, Turn".</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Chloe Bennet as Skye: A civilian computer hacker and member of the hacktivist group called "the Rising Tide", with an obsession for superheroes, whom Coulson recruits in the pilot episode. Skye is described as "bubbly and goofy" but "also warm, edgy and witty". She can more than hold her own in any situation. In "The Girl with the Flower Dress", it is revealed that Skye joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and Rising Tide in order to find out about her parents. In "Seeds", it is revealed that Skye was designated by S.H.I.E.L.D. as an '0-8-4' (object of unknown origin). After she is shot twice in the stomach and given hours to live in the episode "T.R.A.C.K.S.," she is subjected to the same regenerative serum used to revive Coulson, in "T.A.H.I.T.I". In "Yes Men," Coulson shares the secret alien nature of the serum with her, and the two make a pact to work together to uncover more information about it. She becomes a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the episode "End of the Beginning" with level 1 clearance.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz: An agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who specializes in engineering, especially weapons technology. De Caestacker downplays the apparent romantic chemistry between Fitz and Simmons, insisting that Simmons is merely "motherly" toward Fitz. Described as "superorganized", the character keeps only bare essentials on his worktable, with the exception of a monkey figurine that is a nod to De Caestecker's obsession with monkeys.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons: An agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who specializes in life sciences (both human and alien). She is generally cheerful and enthusiastic about her work. Agents Fitz and Simmons are close partners. Hendstridge and Caestecker agreed at Paleyfest 2014 that Fitz and Simmons have a brother/sister relationship.</li>

The guys over at Cinema Sin review and analyse mistakes within them. This makes for extremely interesting viewing and really shows very possibly how little we actually notice when watching movies. Really interesting to watch and in this case, they give Marvel's The Avengers the treatment and show all of us fans exactly what we might have missed when we saw the movie. Take a peak at the video below, you won't be disappointed!</div>
